The 3rd Shot Drop Formula Every Player Needs to Know

Want to master the 3rd shot drop like the pros? In this video, we’re going to get into the things that you need to do to make this shot more consistent.

There three pieces to every single shot, not just the third shot, every shot that we play;

i) Shoulder to the paddle

ii) Your foot on the court. Your feet have to be in the right position to hit whatever shot you’re hitting

iii) The foundation. The piece between the shoulder and the foot on the court

To hit a shot correctly, each one of those three pieces needs to be working. For this video, we’re going to focus on what happens with the shoulder to the paddle.

The first step in becoming more consistent

Get the shot over the net. Create the right trajectory even if it’s attacked, then work on the amount of energy that’s in the shot.

You can reduce the energy that’s in the shot once you have that feel, and that’s what will make it less attackable.

Whether you’re aiming for more consistency or looking to gain an edge over your opponents, in this video you’ll get the tools and some great drills to practice with a partner to make your 3rd shot drop more reliable and effective.

Tony Roig

Hola. Hello. Konichiwa. After 40 years playing tennis, I am now a full-time pickleball player and professional. As a 5.0 rated Senior Pro Pickleball Player and an IPTPA-certified Master Teaching Professional, my focus is on helping players like you learn to play their best pickleball. In 2016, shortly after starting to play pickleball, my friend Tom and I jumped into the highest division at the first US Open in Naples, Florida. That morning it became clear just how much there is to learn in this seemingly simple sport – a lifetime of learning if you so choose. Since 2018, I have been on a mission to share my knowledge of pickleball so other players can enjoy the game at a higher level and attain their pickleball objectives. When not studying or playing pickleball, I like to travel with my other half, Jill.
