C – it adds confusion to the serving side and provides the returner a comfortable margin of error.
Not:
A – is risky, low margin for error, you may hit it out.
B & D everyone has a backhand, some very good
E – Don’t invite your opponent to the NVL
I think C. You have already told us to keep the return of serve deep and I think down the middle sometimes creates confusion if the opponents haven’t worked out who will take that shot.
I would say B since it is the deepest shot and takes away angles and could create some confusion and at the backhand (if right handed) of the returner.
I think the most strategic spot for the ROS would be C. That spot may confuse the opponents as to who should take it.
I’m going to say C… because it passes the Deep and In screens with the least risk. And having a single point of aim (vs B, D)… lets me focus on fine tuning the Deep, so that I have the time to get to the NVL.
C. Helps to keep both players back. Could cause confusion over who takes the ball resulting in a gifted point or a poor return that can be capitalized on. Answer might change if a receiver has a particularly poor backhand, but generally most opponents at 3.5 and over level have a decent backhand.
C. It is at the opponent on the left’s backhand and further from the opponent on the right’s forehand. I find it difficult to accurately place my return of service or any return.
C because the serving players may not call centre region balls and no one tries to hit it.
E if you know your opponents can’t move easily ( a little mean perhaps!).
I would recommend “C” since it keeps both “Serving Side” opponents back on the serving line and may create some confusion as to which opponent returns it or not. Also, this deep return shot allows me (Receiving Side) to get up to the NVZ with my partner to maximize our receiving side advantage.
I would say D when I am on the right side. This gives me time to run up to the NVZ, possibly a weaker backhand return and then the possibility of the other server side returner to run up to the NVZ not waiting to see where the ball is hit creating a hole for my return. When I am on the left side I would say C for confusion and potential backhand of returner.
A is too risky due to margin of error and the fact the serve team partner can rush the NVZ which is against the idea of keeping the serve team back as far away from the return team as far as possible.
B and D, assuming the player is righthanded, may be to the player’s backhand, but allows the serve team partner to rush the NVZ which is against the idea of keeping the serve team back as far away from the return team as far as possible.
E allows both serve team members to rush to the NVZ which is against the idea of keeping the serve team back as far away from the return team as far as possible.
C is recommended return. It creates confusion as to which serve team member returns the shot, it has less margin of error as the returned shot is not as deep as B and D, and yet still keeps the serve team back as far away from the return team as possible.
C
C: keeps serving team deep and forces them to decide which one needs to hit the next shot
B or D: keeps the serving team deep and assuming both opponents are right-handed forces a backhanded return although D is a bit risker as it is closer to the out of bounds shot
A: higher risk as it is very close to the out of bounds
E: allows both players to come up to the NVZ sooner than you normally want them to and requires a well place shot to insure that you do not provide your opponents with a easy return for point.
B, C, D, A, E. Keep them back on the baseline. Middle is better than sides–less chance for error. Server may be a little mre vulnerable than partner, but putting in middle will possibly cause confusion as to who will return it. Sideline is risky. Short return just invites them to the net and helps them overcome positional disadvantage so it is last choice.
B/C: Like a good medication, safe and effective.
B/C: Like a good pill, safe and effective.
I try to shoot for C because it gives me some room for error in my placement – and if I do hit the shot, it can cause confusion between my opponents on who is going to take the shot.
C would be my choice.
I usually aim for C, occasionally D
I usually aim for D. I ask my partner to be about a foot off the center line. Opponent has to return with backhand, either crosscourt (my partner gets) or straight back to me.
I think B or C.
B primarily as assuming server is right-handed it targets server’s backhand. C is good because it tends to keep both players back at baseline setting up good situation for 4th, 6th, etc. shots. I choose B over C as my “standard” ROS since C brings in server’s partner’s forehand.
B – – return deep, with a safety margin, down the center
C – It keeps the serving team deep allowing you to have a bit more time to get to the NVZ. It could also create confusion on the serving team as to who will take the shot
C
My intention is simply to get the ball back over the net within the court.
But after this workshop I am confident I will have a much better, much more intentional response.
THANKS!
I like A, C, E randomly
And if it is one shot all the time would be C.
I prefer mixing up my shots so that opponents don’t know what I am shooting.
Many times my partners give me a heads up about our opponent shots!
I would have to choose ‘C’. This location affords the returner the highest percentage of keeping the shot ‘in’, while challenging the backhand shot from the serve team. The other locations, while ‘sexy’, also raise the possibility of hitting the shot out-of-bounds.
B As the return team, we want to keep the serve team back, and B has a higher probability of landing in play than returning to D.
C
B if server is right handed.
B if server is right handed
C if is with in the 2 feet from base line area . B my second choice with in 2 feet of baseline
c if with in 2 feet of baseline area , same for b
I originally thought B because it appears to be the deepest and the least risk. Then I though C was a really good choice, too. But here’s my considerations. 1) You just want to start the rally. 2) Yes, C might add confusion, but it may add confusion for the receiver, too because you don’t really know which person might be able to return the ball 3) B allows more TIME to get to the NVZ. So, my conclusion is my first inclination – B.
C because it will keep both players deep and give you time to get to the NVZ
I believe that C is the answer because of the confusion that is created when the ball is down the middle. B would be my second choice for the same reason. Also when balls are needed to be returned from deep in the court chances are they’ll be missed with players at the NVZ.
C
C is the best place to aim for return of serve. The middle tends to confuse players.
I shoot for “C” because it is the lower risk target and the SS might use a little time to decide who is taking the shot.
C. It keeps both players back and is confusing about who should take the return.
c
C – Right down the middle
C – as it’s less risky than going wide on ROS. Why not certain on that yet.
C.
C
I think C is best to hold serve side back and create confusion as to whose ball it is.
