#158- Check Yourself with the Long Lens
It’s really important to make sure we’re using that long lens as we move through our Pickleball journey, instead of the short lens, to check ourselves and our progress.
The long lens helps you with the big picture, understand where you are along your path, and help you avoid potential frustrations as you are moving forward.
How do we use the long lens? What can we do?
In this episode I explain to you how you use the long lens as well as the limitation that you have when you’re the one evaluating yourself. Think of the long lens approach as a telephoto or a zoom lens that allows you to view yourself from outside the barrel.
The word of the week this week is GROWTH. It feels good when you learn something new or when you grow in an area and it is natural to want to grow. Growing as a pickleball player means a lot more than just winning.
I’ll also share with you views from an interview I came across interviewing the Mamba, Kobe Bryant and why you should be driven by the process.

During the riff, I am going to switch it to the short lens.
This is because there’s a place for the short lens and a place for the long lens.

Hola. Hello. Konichiwa. After 40 years playing tennis, I am now a full-time pickleball player and professional. As a 5.0 rated Senior Pro Pickleball Player and an IPTPA-certified Master Teaching Professional, my focus is on helping players like you learn to play their best pickleball. In 2016, shortly after starting to play pickleball, my friend Tom and I jumped into the highest division at the first US Open in Naples, Florida. That morning it became clear just how much there is to learn in this seemingly simple sport – a lifetime of learning if you so choose. Since 2018, I have been on a mission to share my knowledge of pickleball so other players can enjoy the game at a higher level and attain their pickleball objectives. When not studying or playing pickleball, I like to travel with my other half, Jill.
