#156- A Unifying Theory of Pickleball – the FOSS Approach

If you’re feeling frustrated with your Pickleball development, there is a way out. That way out is through understanding the picture and design of Pickleball.

There’s a beautiful puzzle that is created by the rules and the court that we play on.

What is your puzzle box cover? What’s your approach to solving the puzzle?

The word of the week this week is puzzle and the FOSS approach is a way to navigate that puzzle to put those pieces together.

In this episode I explain why the FOSS approach (The acronym stands for, Framework, Objectives, Strategies, and Shots) is so helpful and why it’s something that you should add to your thinking about pickleball and to your approach to this game.

The FOSS approach is a good way to have a unifying theory- you won’t just end up wandering around the desert or lost at sea without a directional map of where to go because it gives you forward progress in your game.

Chapters:

00:00 – A framework for Pickleball Improvement: The FOSS Approach

05:02 -Applying the FOSS Approach To Improve Your Pickleball Game

09:57 – Unlocking Pickleball Improvement Through the FOSS Approach

15:22 – Understanding the Puzzle of Pickleball to Unlock Success

In the riff, I’m going to vent a little bit as a coach from my vantage point.

I share with you some frustrations that I’ve experienced as a trainer, as a Pickleball coach, and as a player and a person who wants other players to do the best they can in their game.

Hola. Hello. Konichiwa. After 40 years playing tennis, I am now a full-time pickleball player and professional. As a 5.0 rated Senior Pro Pickleball Player and an IPTPA-certified Master Teaching Professional, my focus is on helping players like you learn to play their best pickleball. In 2016, shortly after starting to play pickleball, my friend Tom and I jumped into the highest division at the first US Open in Naples, Florida. That morning it became clear just how much there is to learn in this seemingly simple sport – a lifetime of learning if you so choose. Since 2018, I have been on a mission to share my knowledge of pickleball so other players can enjoy the game at a higher level and attain their pickleball objectives. When not studying or playing pickleball, I like to travel with my other half, Jill.
