#132- Avoid this Pickleball Pitfall (All Shots and No Framework)

Many players fall into a pitfall of their own making. Specifically, players think that they need this shot or that shot.

And that the framework of the game is secondary. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Think of it like this: you know how to move all the pieces on a chessboard but you do not know the way the game is constructed. Not a very good way to play chess right? Same thing happens on a pickleball court.

Framework gives you the construction of the game to understand how the game is built. That’s why we call it the most important concept to understand.

Everything then begins to make more sense because you know the framework. You can then start to recognize objectives, then you build strategies. Once you have your strategies, then you can decide what shots to deploy.

Listen to this episode to learn more about you can play better by avoiding pitfalls and keeping a perspective.

Chapters:

00:00- Falling into pitfalls on the path to pickleball improvement

04:51: Understanding the framework of pickleball: Avoiding a common pitfall

09:02 – The three pillars of pickleball

In the riff, I share with you some recent occurrences and look at how maintaining perspective can avoid things from spiraling downwards out there.

When we maintain perspective, we increase the good and minimize the bad.

Keep a perspective when you’re out there about what’s happening on the ball court.

Hola. Hello. Konichiwa. After 40 years playing tennis, I am now a full-time pickleball player and professional. As a 5.0 rated Senior Pro Pickleball Player and an IPTPA-certified Master Teaching Professional, my focus is on helping players like you learn to play their best pickleball. In 2016, shortly after starting to play pickleball, my friend Tom and I jumped into the highest division at the first US Open in Naples, Florida. That morning it became clear just how much there is to learn in this seemingly simple sport – a lifetime of learning if you so choose. Since 2018, I have been on a mission to share my knowledge of pickleball so other players can enjoy the game at a higher level and attain their pickleball objectives. When not studying or playing pickleball, I like to travel with my other half, Jill.
